Muriwai Scenic Country Wine Tour

- Duration: 210 Minutes (approx.)
- Location: Saint Heliers, Auckland
- Product code: MSCWT
Just 30 minutes from Auckland this afternoon tour picks up inner city and immediately whisks you out to the market garden and lifestyle areas of Kumeu , Huapai and Waimauku. The name Huapai in Maori translates as “the place of fruit” which isn’t surprising given the abundance of apples, plums, strawberries and of course grapes grown in the local area.
We’ll start our tasting experience of New Zealand Wine at Soljans Vineyard. Here you can enjoy a generous tasting selection of Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, barrel fermented Chardonnay as well as regional Pinot Noirs, a Hawkes Bay Syrah and Cabernet based blends – Soljans also have an enviable reputation for their sparkling Methode Traditionelle NV Blanc de Blanc as well as their 10 year aged Solera Tawny Port.
Next visit family owned West Brook Wines established in 1935 for a cellar door tasting. Situated in the picturesque Waimauku Valley you can try award winning Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Albarino and Malbec from their own beautiful vineyard as well as Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir from their estates in Marlborough.
Finally, you’ll be taken through beautiful rolling sheep and cattle country out to Muriwai, a seaside enclave popular with surfers and famous for its black sand beaches. Here you can watch the Gannets August to May courting, mating and rearing their young preparing them for the winter migration.
There are spectacular views of the Tasman Sea and rugged West Coast from the lookouts.
Please note there are no Gannets between May and August due to their migration.
